Erelim
The erelim (singular: erel) or er'elim (singular: er'el) are an order of angels in the Delegate group, whose primary duties involve interacting with humans. They are warrior angels and are typically understood as soldiers in Yahweh's army.
Appearance
Erelim appear as strong and relatively masculine human males with a pair of large, broad wings, much larger than those of malakhim, which may be white or any color other than black. They are usually armored and bear weapons such as swords or spears.
Lookalikes
Erelim may superficially resemble some other types of angels or spirits, but they can be distinguished through certain characteristics.
Watchers
Erelim and Watchers both appear as men with one pair of large feathered wings. However, they are highly distinguishable by the feeling of their presence; the Watchers are fallen angels who are allied with Satanael and promote many Satanic values. They are self-oriented, prideful, rebellious, expressive of their individual characteristics, and often sexual in nature. Erelim are servants of Yahweh who suppress their individuality, declare war on whatever Yahweh condemns as "evil" or "sinful," and give all their actions and glory to him alone.
Confusion between Watchers and erelim when encountered firsthand is very rare, because the differences in their presence are so major. However, if merely seen in a vision without the sensation of the being's actual presence, there can be confusion. The main visual difference is that erelim never have black wings, while many Watchers have black wings. Watchers never have white wings, while many erelim have white wings. However, not all Watchers have black wings, and not all erelim have white wings.
In cases where the wings of the being are neither black nor white, one must use cues of what the being is wearing or doing to discern his identity. Erelim usually wear armor, carry weapons, and wear or carry symbols of Yahweh. Watchers may be seen wearing armor or carrying weapons, but they never appear in favorable conjunction with symbols of Yahweh. Erelim are frequently seen in groups with other erelim wearing similar armor and symbols, and they are hard to distinguish from one another in a group context unless one is of a higher rank or position than the others. Watchers' appearances are much more unique and self-expressive. Even when Watchers are seen in groups, they are never nondescript or indistinguishable like ordinary soldiers in an army; their appearances and garments all carry their own personal attributes and choices in self-expression. This individuality is still visible even in visions showing Watchers armored for battle (such as visions of the Brazen War).
Other names
In Greek, they are exousiai, singular exousia. In medieval Christian angelology, these angels are known as the Powers, although some sources incorrectly equate them with the Thrones (who are actually the ophanim) instead. The Muslim name for them is jundullah, meaning "the army of Allah," since Muslims refer to Yahweh as Allah.
Examples
The well-known archangels Michael and Uriel are erelim.
