Originally, the [[Grigori]] were an [[order]] of [[angels]] in the service of [[Yahweh]], tasked to keep the secrets of the [[Spiritual realm|higher realms]]. They were meant to reveal small amounts of information to [[Human|mankind]] in a deliberate, calculated manner, tightly controlling human access to forbidden arts and truths. In this way, people would remain naïve and ignorant, relying solely on Yahweh’s messengers for knowledge. However, the proud ''ʿīrīn'' became unhappy with Their servitude, and frustration with Their position slowly grew among Them. The eventual breaking point was a moment when They gazed upon the beauty of human women, spoke amongst Themselves, and agreed that the time had come to rebel against Yahweh. (While human women are usually cited as the main attraction, it is known that at least some Grigori were interested in men as well, and there was no taboo against such unions in the eyes of the Watchers or the followers They amassed.)
