Usage

Use {{Insertion}} to display a quieted editorial insertion enclosed in square brackets.

Both the square brackets and the enclosed text are displayed in the same subtle gray color and font size as {{Ellipsis}}.

The text passed to the template should not include brackets. The template adds them automatically.

Basic usage

“The Watchers descended {{Insertion|according to the longer recension}} upon Mount Hermon.”

Produces:

“The Watchers descended [according to the longer recension] upon Mount Hermon.”

Parameters

The text to display quieted and bracketed. This parameter is required.

Notes

Both the brackets and the enclosed text are quieted.

Use {{Quiet brackets}} when only the brackets should be subdued and the enclosed text should retain the normal formatting of the surrounding quotation.

If the inserted text contains a vertical bar character, use {{!}} in place of the bar so the template does not misread it as a parameter divider.
