Anton LaVey
Anton Szandor LaVey (born Howard Stanton Levey; April 11, 1930 - October 29, 1997) was an American atheistic satanist, author, and musician best known for founding the Church of Satan in 1966 and writing its core text, The Satanic Bible.[1] He is widely regarded as the father of atheistic satanism and the most influential public figure identifying with the Satanist label. His Church and its corresponding quasi-religious ideology, LaVeyanism, have heavily impacted the modern public perception of Satanism. Although his work has influenced some later forms of theistic Satanism, his ideas and his LaVeyan movement are firmly and explicitly atheistic.[2] LaVey was the High Priest of the Church of Satan for 31 years, spanning from its founding in 1966 to his death in 1997.[3]
